A serious road accident was reported on Thursday afternoon in eastern Switzerland, where a bus carrying tourists veered off the road and overturned. Five people were killed, while 40 others were injured.

Local police said the Dutch bus had set off at 16:45 local time from Zernez toward Sousse. The accident occurred in the Les region, in an area where construction work was under way. Three of the injured are in hospital in serious condition.
Seven rescue helicopters from Rega, Alpine Air Ambulance and Heli Austria were deployed to evacuate the passengers, along with 13 ambulances that arrived at the scene. The victims have not yet been identified.
The investigation into the causes and circumstances of the accident is being conducted by the Graubünden Public Prosecutor’s Office in cooperation with the Cantonal Police.
