The information was made public by Karolina Gałecka, a spokesperson for Poland’s Ministry of the Interior, who said police had been notified of possible threats against the two senior officials.

In response, the authorities activated the necessary measures and called an emergency meeting attended by the police, the State Protection Service and the Internal Security Agency.

Jacek Dobrzyński, spokesperson for Poland’s special services, said the case was being treated with the utmost seriousness.

He said the likelihood of the threats turning into concrete actions was considered high. For this reason, the responsible institutions had strengthened their cooperation and immediate coordination.

The initial report was passed to the police by the State Protection Service, which is responsible for ensuring the security of senior officials in Poland.

The authorities have yet to clarify the nature of the threat, the identity of those who may be behind it, or whether any suspects have been identified.

The case comes at a time when concerns about domestic security in Poland have grown.

In the past week alone, the country has faced several incidents of violence in schools. In addition, the authorities have raised the alarm over the possibility of hybrid attacks amid heightened security tensions influenced by the war in Ukraine.

In September, Prime Minister Donald Tusk warned that Russian hybrid attacks could increase on NATO’s eastern flank. He said Russia could target countries helping Ukraine, including Poland, in an effort to weaken Western support for Kyiv. Moscow has rejected these accusations.

Threats against Polish politicians are not a new phenomenon. In August, police arrested a 23-year-old man suspected of inciting the murder of senior politicians in the country.

The investigation into the latest report is ongoing, while the institutions have released no further details about the possible attack on the prime minister and the defense minister.
