A Russian Air Force official died this morning in St Petersburg after his vehicle exploded shortly after he had left his home.

According to the Russian newspaper Fontanka, an improvised explosive device had been placed in the car. The man died at the scene.
The victim was a lieutenant colonel in Russia’s Aerospace and Air Defense Forces. His wife was also seriously injured, and doctors are fighting to save her life.
The Main Investigative Directorate of Russia’s Investigative Committee in St Petersburg has launched an investigation to determine the circumstances of the explosion.
