A plane crash involving a small aircraft in the Bahamas has left 10 people dead.
The tragedy occurred in North Andros, in the waters west of Nassau, the capital of the archipelago, while the government ordered a temporary suspension of the airline’s flights.

In an initial response, Bahamian Prime Minister Philip Brave Davis said one person had survived, but later, during a press conference, confirmed that the survivor had died from the injuries sustained.
So far, the identities of the victims have not been made public.
“We are gathered here under a cloud of deep sorrow,” he said, noting that the country was marking the 53rd anniversary of the Bahamas’ independence.
“It has become a day of mourning. To every family that has received the devastating news that a loved one will never return home, we express our deepest condolences,” he added.
Authorities have still not released the names of those on board, but there are suspicions that members of Da Pond Band, a music group, may have been among them.
