Pacolli: Kosovo’s development must go hand in hand with the protection of land and the environment

The decisions made today are the foundation on which the Kosovo of 2050 will be built.

Experts from Kosovo and other countries, representatives of institutions, academics, professional chambers and development partners gathered at the International Symposium “Kosovo Spatial Vision 2050.” The event was organized for the first time in Kosovo at such a high level and aimed to establish a shared approach to the country’s territorial development.

An important part of the discussions focused on uncontrolled urban growth, the preservation of agricultural land, the protection of green spaces and the need for sustainable development in line with environmental requirements.

Minister of Environment and Spatial Planning Fitore Pacolli said that the country must move from the formal drafting of plans to their concrete implementation. According to her, inherited challenges and changes in demographic needs require more responsible, long-term and inclusive planning.

Kosovo Spatial Vision 2050 is intended to serve as the basis for structured development, functional infrastructure, more livable cities and more effective protection of natural resources.

Building the Kosovo of 2050 begins with the responsibility demonstrated in the present. Through clear direction, long-term planning and sustainable implementation, development can advance alongside environmental protection and improved citizens’ well-being.

The symposium was organized by the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning, with the support of the German Government and the Swiss Government, through GIZ Kosovo.
