North Macedonia Customs Seize Gold Jewelry Worth 1.3 Million Denars, File Criminal Charges Against One Person

At the Tabanoc border crossing, customs officers stopped an attempt to smuggle 348 grams of gold jewelry, valued at 1.3 million denars, into the country.

The jewelry was discovered during a detailed search of a vehicle carrying a couple who are citizens of North Macedonia and reside in Belgium. A total of 26 pieces of gold jewelry were found in the female passenger’s bag.

The Investigation Department within the Control and Investigation Sector filed criminal charges against the passenger for “smuggling,” an offense punishable under the Criminal Code.

Since the beginning of this year, 13 cases of gold smuggling have been recorded, with more than 2.5 kilograms of gold jewelry and coins seized.
