Muqiqi: The VV-LDK agreement should have happened earlier; more elections will not solve the crisis

Publicist and political analyst Ismail Muqiqi believes that cooperation between the Vetëvendosje Movement and the Democratic League of Kosovo should have happened earlier, but according to him, this process was obstructed by narrow political interests and internal divisions.

“A coalition between Vetëvendosje and the Democratic League of Kosovo has long been necessary, but because of political whims and grudges, as well as the factions operating within the LDK and the interests of certain groups, this has not happened until now,” Muqiqi said.

He says the snap elections did not produce any significant movement on Kosovo’s political scene and did not bring any substantial change from previous periods.

“This was also proven by the case of going to snap elections, which brought no novelty or substantial change compared to the past,” he said.

According to Muqiqi, at this stage it is up to the Vetëvendosje Movement to show readiness for political compromise and approach the LDK with a concrete proposal regarding the country’s president.

“I believe that the Vetëvendosje Movement will behave as it should, reflecting sound principles and approaching the Democratic League of Kosovo to propose an acceptable name for the country’s president,” he said.

Muqiqi opposes the possibility of holding new elections, arguing that they only worsen the political situation.

“There is no longer any point in claiming that the country should go to national elections again. Besides having become repulsive to citizens, they are further escalating the situation on Kosovo’s political scene,” Muqiqi said.

Commenting on the challenges awaiting the country, he calls on political parties to take responsibility and not continue with institutional blockades.

“Kosovo has numerous challenges that it will continue to face, therefore there is no justification for harming the country through obstruction and blockades. It is time for everyone to take responsibility, setting aside personal, party, and group interests in order to build the institutions,” he said.

In conclusion, Muqiqi warned that prolonging the political crisis could bring growing dissatisfaction and reactions from citizens.

“Any attempt to continue the old pattern should make every political party aware that it will face continuous protests from citizens and abandonment from the political scene,” Muqiqi concluded.
