The intervention came after air and sea patrols carried out in the maritime area of southern Mexico. After the two boats were stopped by naval forces, inspections also found around 1,000 liters of fuel stored in 20 containers.

According to the authorities, the operation comes at a time when Mexico has intensified its efforts against drug trafficking, following increased pressure from the United States to crack down on drug cartels and smuggling networks.

The Mexican navy estimates that the seizure prevented drugs worth around $37 million from reaching the illegal market. According to the authorities, the operation has significantly damaged the financial and logistical base of organized crime.

This operation is being regarded as one of the biggest blows in recent times against cocaine trafficking in the region.
