Acting Minister of Defense Ejup Maqedonci has announced that the goal is for the Kosovo Army to be ready to defend the territory by 2029.
According to him, the country is going through a ten-year transition period which, based on existing plans, will conclude in 2028.

Maqedonci underlined that during this time frame, several of the targets that had been set have been exceeded, both in terms of the number of military equipment and the categories of weaponry.
“It was approved on December 14, 2018 by the Assembly. During this phase we had a transition plan and now we are at its conclusion, which is expected to close in 2028. The investments we have made have enabled us to exceed many of the objectives, in terms of equipment, not only in quantity but also in the types of weaponry, since we had been limited in that plan,” Maqedonci said.
He further stressed that Kosovo is in the final stage of building operational capacities, while the objective remains to achieve full readiness in 2029.
“We are at the end of the process of achieving operational capacities. We plan that in 2029 we will have a force ready for the defense of the territory, for supporting civil authorities and for participation in international missions,” he said in an interview with Euronews Albania.
