In the analyst’s assessment, Prime Minister Edi Rama and the Socialists are obliged to deeply analyze the dissatisfaction that citizens are expressing. On the other hand, the Democratic Party also bears part of the responsibility and must reassess the position it holds in the current political situation.
Lubonja paid special attention to the figure of Ervin Salianji, the politician who has long spoken about the necessity of a renewed Democratic Party. It was precisely Salianji, who has not hesitated to criticize Sali Berisha in the past, who, according to the analyst, had all the prerequisites to take concrete steps toward the party’s transformation.
His conclusion was bitter: reflection is expected to have not happened at all, while he considered the way the Democrats handled the protest to be wrong.
“Reflection should have been shared by the entire political spectrum – from the prime minister, to the opposition, and then the other parties. The file on Rama’s resignation and the Socialists’ search for new ways to respond to the protest should have been accompanied by the Democratic Party’s self-criticism, as the party should have understood that it too stands accused. Salianji, who claims he will renew the Democratic Party and has openly declared that Berisha is just like Rama, was the most suitable person to initiate changes within the party. But nothing of the sort was seen in practice: the Democratic Party easily dismissed the protest and Salianji proved completely absent,” he emphasized.
