Kusari-Lila: Official talks expected after certification, but party positions remain informal

Acting Minister of Trade Mimoza Kusari-Lila said that official communication between the Vetëvendosje Movement and other political forces on the creation of the new institutions of the Republic of Kosovo is expected to begin as soon as the results of the June 7 elections are certified.

According to her, the coalition she represents will present its official position and expects other parties to do the same. She stressed that so far only general statements have been heard from political representatives, but no official party decisions, with the exception of the Alliance.

Kusari-Lila said the political situation created after the June 7 elections appears more complicated than in previous electoral cycles. As she put it, more than one position is emerging within other parties regarding possible political agreements or coalitions.

According to her, this circumstance is not only making it more difficult, but could further complicate the constitution of the new institutions and the reaching of an agreement.

Kusari: Today, one parliamentary grouping or one political entity has two or three positions

“Up to now, what I have heard, at least, have been general statements by party representatives, but not at the level of decisions by those parties. I exclude people from the Alliance, which has come out concretely. At the moment the results are certified, official communication should begin, with official positions. In our case, it is the leader of the largest party in the coalition, Prime Minister Albin Kurti. In other positions are the party leaders, who should present the party’s official position, but also that of the group of deputies they have. Because the situation is a bit more complicated than in past elections, when today one parliamentary grouping or one political entity has two or three positions. This is indeed making it much more difficult and will make the constitution of the institutions or an agreement between the election-winning entity and the other parties more difficult,” Kusari said.

Asked about the conditions set by the Alliance to potentially give its vote in institutional processes, Kusari-Lila said these issues should be addressed within the framework of proposals for drafting the government program.

She also commented on the main condition that various parties have set for possible involvement in talks with Vetëvendosje, specifically the issue of American gas. The leader of Alternativa said such a topic should not be used for internal political clashes.

Does Vetëvendosje accept others’ condition on “American gas”

“As for projects, I believe that is an issue discussed with the government program. And if a party sets conditions of this nature, but does not become part of the government, its content has no meaning. Whereas with regard in particular to this project, which has been politicized far too much, I do not believe it does anyone any credit, nor our cooperation or relations with the United States of America, if strategic projects such as energy are used for internal political battles. I understand that there is a need for discussion and substantive debate, but not a debate with accusations and counter-accusations over a project that will outlast the mandates of all governments, not only in the specific case, for example, of the discussion on American gas,” she said.

Asked also about possible names for posts and functions in the new institutions expected to be formed, Kusari-Lila said she could not give details, because that topic, according to her, has been left to be discussed in eventual talks between political parties.

She also recalled VV’s earlier proposal to vote for Feride Rushiti for president, underlining that opposition parties at the time had not acted in the same way and, according to her, had not offered concrete proposals.

Kusari on names for president: It is time to treat things seriously

“I cannot speak about names now because this is a process that has been left to be discussed among political parties, as you know, it has been said that other recommendations are also expected. Feride Rushiti, a recommendation at a moment when the opposition parties at the time had not given any proposal, had not publicly mentioned any name. Perhaps it is time to start treating things seriously, beginning with the official positions of political entities that agree and guarantee all deputies. The Democratic League of Kosovo, the Democratic Party of Kosovo, both of them last time did not have concrete proposals,” she said.
