Kosovo Police clarify: Only one directorate handles war crimes, here’s where citizens should report

In an official announcement, the Kosovo Police have informed that only the Directorate for the Investigation of War Crimes is authorized to handle the receipt, verification, investigation, and prosecution of information or criminal cases related to crimes committed during the 1998-1999 conflict in Kosovo. This process is carried out in close cooperation with the Special Prosecution of the Republic.

Through a press release, the authorities emphasized that this structure handles every important piece of information, regardless of its source. This includes data from individuals, organizations, domestic and international institutions, as well as information found from open sources, always in accordance with current legislation.

Referring to recent press reports about the way these matters are handled, the Police reaffirm that the official channel for submitting any evidence, information, or data remains the Directorate for the Investigation of War Crimes within its structure, as well as the Department for War Crimes at the Special Prosecution.

At the end of the notice, the Police and the Special Prosecution appeal to residents, persons who witnessed events, survivors, their families, and anyone who possesses facts useful for investigations to present them to these institutions.
