In Britain, a couple set up honey traps for robberies: the woman lured them in, then the victims were poisoned

A serious criminal case has come to light in Great Britain, where a woman posing as a sex worker secretly administered dangerous doses of a sedative to her clients with the aim of later robbing them together with her accomplice. As a result of the poisoning, two people lost their lives.

In court, 31-year-old Antina Mihai and 30-year-old Madalin Dumitru admitted guilt to the manslaughter of two men: an 80-year-old from Gloucestershire and a 37-year-old from Oxfordshire.

At Oxford Court, they were also found guilty in two other poisoning cases involving men in southern England who managed to survive.

Investigators say that from August 2024 to July 2025, the two defendants, who had previously lived in Ilford, Essex, targeted men seeking sexual services. They first took advance payments from the victims, after which Mihai would go to their homes.

Under the guise of a sex worker, she gave them the substance GBL (gamma-butyrolactone) without their knowledge, which in the body is converted into GHB (gamma-hydroxybutyrate), a substance with a powerful sedative and narcotic effect.

Malcolm King, 80, who lived in a village near Cirencester in Gloucestershire, was found dead at his home on August 21, 2024. Meanwhile, 37-year-old Gary Muat was found dead at his home in Banbury on July 13 of last year.

After carrying out the autopsy, Thames Valley Police investigators concluded that Mihai had poisoned Muat by putting GBL into an alcoholic drink.

Authorities then issued an alert to all police forces across the country in order to review other unexplained death cases that might have been linked to the couple.

At the same time, Gloucestershire Police’s major crime unit reopened the case of Malcolm King’s death, which had initially been treated as non-suspicious because of the health problems he had. However, new toxicology tests revealed that he too had been poisoned with the same substance.

Investigators also identified two other men in southern England who had been drugged and robbed by the accused but had managed to survive. For legal reasons, their identities have not been made public.

So far, authorities have not been able to link the couple to any other deaths, poisonings or robberies. However, police have not ruled out the possibility that there may be other victims.

During a court appearance via videoconference, both defendants admitted guilt to the manslaughter of the two victims, as well as to two other charges related to administering poison.

Detective Adam Stacey, who is leading the investigation for Gloucestershire Police, said the accused targeted men seeking sexual services, secretly drugged them until they lost consciousness and then robbed them. According to him, in Malcolm King’s case, their “cynical and premeditated actions had fatal consequences.”

Meanwhile, Detective Michael Roddy of Thames Valley Police said the perpetrators’ actions proved fatal for Gary Muat and that he was pleased the victim’s family had finally received answers after the conclusion of the investigation.

Antina Mihai and Mădălin Dumitru remain in custody and will be sentenced at a later hearing at Oxford Court. Judge Brunner warned them that they face lengthy prison sentences.
