A 25-year-old woman lost her life in Igoumenitsa, Greece, while authorities suspect that her former partner, 27, was behind the killing.

Penelope, as the victim has been identified, had worked for more than a year at a company involved in mussel cultivation. A colleague remembered her as an educated and very kind young woman who had studied biology and worked in her field.
According to the suspect’s testimony, an argument broke out between him and the 25-year-old woman, during which they also discussed a financial obligation. Vasilis Nakos, head of the police employees’ union in Thesprotia, said the 27-year-old had claimed that he owed the victim money and had met her to resolve the issue.
Following the confrontation, the young man allegedly stabbed his former partner in the neck and immediately fled the scene.
The woman was later found injured and unconscious in a structure near the bicycle path. Despite the efforts of the emergency team, she had died.
Initially, while speaking to police, the 27-year-old said that he and his former partner had been attacked by four people with their faces covered. According to his initial account, the attackers then left the scene.
However, he later changed his testimony and admitted that he had attacked the 25-year-old after their argument. Police located him shortly after the incident.
The suspect was found with wounds to his chest, which he is believed to have inflicted on himself. He was initially taken to Igoumenitsa Hospital and then to Filiates General Hospital, where he is out of danger.
Greek media report that the 27-year-old and the victim had been in a relationship but had broken up about a month earlier. Authorities are verifying the history of their relationship in an effort to fully clarify the circumstances that led to the killing.
The incident has shocked the 25-year-old’s colleagues, who have said that they still cannot believe what happened.
