Democratic Party of Kosovo leader Bedri Hamza said that the Vetëvendosje Movement and the Democratic League of Kosovo have the required number of votes to elect the president.

Speaking to reporters in the Assembly lobby, Hamza said the LDK’s position yesterday in support of a unifying and consensus president had paved the way for Albin Kurti to complete the process.
However, he clarified that the PDK would not take part in talks between LVV and LDK on electing the head of state.
Hamza stressed that his party was not an obstacle and called for the country’s institutions to be established in accordance with the election result. According to him, the speaker of the Assembly should be elected, the government should be formed and then the president should be elected.
He said that, following the LDK’s latest position, the two parties have both the numbers and the necessary votes. Hamza added that LVV and Kurti bear responsibility for either providing the country with institutions or leaving it in an institutional vacuum.
According to the PDK leader, reaching an agreement is easier between two political entities than when more parties are involved in the discussions. He said that during negotiations on an agreement, a third party does not intervene until the first two parties have concluded their talks, so as not to disrupt the order of negotiations. Hamza reiterated that LVV and LDK have the numbers and the willingness, while no one has the right to place themselves above the Constitution.
Hamza repeated that he would not meet with the LVV leader because, according to him, Kurti is not seeking cooperation or partnership.
He described Kurti’s invitations as insincere, lacking substance and unserious, saying that the LVV leader was not seeking cooperation or partnership, but submission.
Hamza said that, based on these facts, the PDK had decided to fulfill its role in the Assembly as an opposition party. He said this role would include criticism, offering alternatives and supporting issues of importance to the country.
He cited the international financial agreement and other important matters as examples. However, he stressed that there could be no more serious situation than the suspension of constitutional order, the failure to implement the Assembly’s Rules of Procedure and the disregard of court rulings, including the Supreme Court’s decision that a person cannot simultaneously serve as a minister and a member of parliament.
Responding to questions about the PDK’s actions, Hamza also explained his absence from activities carried out by the party’s MPs, both at the government building and in the Assembly.
He said that, as PDK leader, he had more responsibilities than other lawmakers who only hold a parliamentary mandate. At the same time, he expressed gratitude for the proper and dignified conduct of PDK lawmakers.
According to Hamza, lawmakers’ workplace is the Assembly chamber, and no one has the right to obstruct their activities inside the plenary chamber. He also expressed the utmost respect for all compatriots, praising their extraordinary contribution during the war and through financial assistance.
The PDK leader also spoke about the former KLA leaders, for whom the Specialist Chambers are expected to deliver a final verdict on September 16.
Hamza said he expected an acquittal for former President Hashim Thaçi and the others. At the same time, he called for the proceedings in The Hague to be treated separately from political developments in the country.
He called for continued trust in justice, saying that political and historic leaders had shown that, when the country’s interests are at stake, they rise above themselves and face an unjust process in the service of the truth.
Hamza stressed that the truth is that the KLA’s war was just and was fought for freedom and independence. According to him, the people of Kosovo are awaiting September 16 with great interest.
Based on what has been seen so far, he said there was no reason, fact or circumstance that could lead to any conclusion other than an acquittal for the former leaders. Finally, Hamza emphasized that this was a separate process and that he did not want anyone to link it to other issues or create uncomfortable situations for the country.
