The fire that engulfed the area between the villages of Asim Zeneli and Saraqinisht, in Gjirokastra County, remained active throughout the night. Firefighting teams worked continuously to contain and isolate the spread of the flames.

The Gjirokastra Directorate of Fire Protection and Rescue announced that the incident was reported at 10:50 p.m. The response was hampered by the rugged terrain, as well as the presence of bushes, dense vegetation and dry grass.
All Gjirokastra Fire Protection and Rescue structures have been mobilized to deal with the situation. Temporary-contract firefighters and the municipality’s volunteer forces are also expected to join the operation.
Authorities still consider the situation serious, while efforts to bring the fire under control are continuing with high intensity. Residents have been asked not to enter the affected area and to follow the authorities’ instructions until the fire is completely extinguished.
