The newspaper wrote that the request was conveyed to Kyiv late last month after concerns were raised in Washington that the strikes were increasing uncertainty in oil markets and causing losses for American companies.
The attacks had targeted tankers transporting crude oil from Kazakhstan to a Caspian Pipeline Consortium terminal located near a Russian port on the Black Sea.
Ukraine suspended strikes on these vessels following the U.S. intervention. Bloomberg had also previously reported a similar request from the United States, noting that the tankers in question were not Russian-owned.
