According to the latest data from the State Statistical Office for 2024, an employee costs an employer in Macedonia an average of nearly 13,000 euros a year.

The average annual cost per employee reached 788,066 denars, while an effective working hour cost an average of 450 denars. During the year, employees worked an average of 1,752 hours.
The highest annual costs were recorded in the “Information and communication” sector, reaching 1,453,846 denars per employee. The figure was 1,116,070 denars in electricity, gas and steam supply; 1,101,922 denars in financial and insurance activities; and 1,028,458 denars in mining and quarrying.
In construction, the annual cost per employee was calculated at 773,812 denars. It was 733,477 denars in trade, 714,309 denars in manufacturing, and 661,181 denars in transportation and storage.
Among the sectors covered by the data, the lowest figure was recorded in accommodation and food services: 565,491 denars per employee per year.
The figures were compiled as part of the 2024 Labour Cost Survey, based on administrative data from the Public Revenue Office and the Employment Agency.
