A widespread wave of technical problems has hit Meta’s social networks, leaving thousands of users worldwide unable to access their Facebook and Instagram accounts.
The difficulties appear more pronounced for those trying to access the platforms via computer browsers, where an unexpected error message blocks all actions.

“Due to a site defect, your account cannot be used at this moment. A quick resolution is anticipated. Please try again in a few minutes,” is the message displayed on affected screens.
Data from monitoring platform Downdetector reveals worrying proportions of the outage. From the United Kingdom alone, over 5 thousand reports have been logged for Facebook and more than 1 thousand for Instagram.
Initially, it seemed the outage was an isolated phenomenon in Britain, but complaints quickly spread to other European countries, as well as North and South America. This broad geographic spread indicates it is an incident with international impact.
Meanwhile, Meta has yet to issue a public response explaining the origin of the defect or giving a precise timeframe for when services will return to full normalcy.
