Socialist Party MP Erion Braçe reacted this Tuesday to the protest held in Tirana, making it clear that he will not take part in it.
According to him, there is no reason to join a protest that, as he describes it, brings together “7-8 agendas,” some of which he considers primitive and very dangerous for the country.

Braçe stresses that his role is in Parliament and that he confronts his party directly whenever he believes there is room for criticism and accountability.
The Socialist MP underlines that he will continue to maintain a critical stance toward the Socialist Party and the government, demanding responsibility, debating, opposing and proposing solutions to issues that, according to him, are not receiving proper attention.
He also clarifies that he does not see the need to use protest as a means to express his objections, as he chooses to say them openly before the party leadership and within its structures.
Braçe’s reaction:
“AN ANSWER TO THREE THINGS;
I AM A SOCIALIST, I AM NOT BECOMING INDEPENDENT,
I AM PARTISAN, NOT NEUTRAL, I TAKE POSITIONS,
I DO NOT STEP ASIDE!
I AM AN ELECTED MP IN TIRANA, I AM NOT FROM THE LIST, I HAVE SERVED AS AN MP, I SERVE AS AN MP,
I WILL CONTINUE TO SERVE AS AN MP, I WILL NOT RESIGN!
I WILL CONTINUE TO STAND UP TO MY PARTY, TELLING THE TRUTH, DEMANDING ACCOUNTABILITY, CRITICIZING, DEBATING, OPPOSING, PROPOSING, APPROVING THERE, FACE TO FACE AND FROM EVERY CORNER OF THE TERRITORY I COVER AS AN MP; SO I DO NOT NEED THE PROTEST AND I DO NOT WANT POLITICAL CAPITAL FROM IT!
So;
No one would believe that if I left the SP parliamentary group, I would be independent, not even those who write this to me; I have been in the SP since its founding, I have been active in it for 35 years, I have lived in it and worked together with it, I have fought battles there and from there, as a socialist, taking positions and never being neutral, therefore independent.
At the same time, I have done the job of an MP, I do the job of an MP and I will continue to do it, not only in Unit 5, but throughout Tirana. Today there is no one in my unit who does not know who their MP is. There is no one in Tirana who does not know that I am an MP of this county. You will not find anyone saying that the MP did not come to my unit, neighborhood, block, street, alley, square below the apartment building, or that the MP did not answer me, did not represent me in Parliament over my problems and concerns or those of my neighborhood. So, I have done my job, I do my job, I will do my job, I am not resigning and I will respect the 25 thousand people who voted for me and entrusted me with this duty.
Finally, of course I will continue to stand up to my party over truths that it refuses to see or keeps outside any agenda for 1001 reasons, including disregard, exclusion or arrogance; I have enough space to do this without any reservation, as happened on Saturday, face to face with the prime minister and the government. Therefore, I do not need to be at the protest with 7-8 agendas, some primitive and very dangerous for this country, but I do it directly and face to face, while being responsible, assuming and demanding responsibility!”
