Speaking to the military magazine “Stripes,” Miller said the troops are physically fit, motivated, disciplined and trained to carry out this mission alongside NATO allies and partners.
U.S. soldiers from the 2nd Cavalry Regiment and support units of the 1st Infantry Division, based in Germany, have taken command of Regional Command-East. According to U.S. Army Europe and Africa, the handover took place on Monday at a ceremony at Camp Bondsteel in Kosovo.
The command was handed over to the active-duty U.S. troops by the Florida National Guard’s 53rd Infantry Brigade. It is the first time since September 2014 that active-duty U.S. soldiers have returned to lead it.
Command spokesperson Staff Sergeant Hunter Tate said the change in leadership reflects the current availability of forces and the needs of the mission.
The change comes as reductions in KFOR troops have been announced, part of an effort to adjust the military presence as the security situation in Kosovo improves.
