Ali Ahmeti, chairman of the Democratic Union for Integration, has reacted to the protest that has been taking place in Tirana for 25 days, raising concern about the consequences that, according to him, this situation could bring for Albania.
In his statement to the media, he underlined Albania’s historical importance for Albanians in the region, with special emphasis on Kosovo, for which he said the country has played a decisive role in the processes of freedom and state-building.

Ahmeti said he is following developments in Albania with concern, while assessing that the protests are dealing the country “two hard blows,” highlighting their possible impact on tourism and the investment climate.
According to the DUI leader, tourism, which constitutes one of the fundamental pillars of the Albanian economy, risks being harmed by uncertainty and by the image being projected abroad. He also mentioned the consequences that, in his view, these protests could have for domestic and foreign investors.
“The main branch of industry, tourism, is being hit; foreign and domestic investments are being hit. No investor risks his capital where there is uncertainty,” declared the DUI leader.
Ahmeti further stressed that his position is not related to defending certain political figures, but to Albania’s interest, adding that its stability and development are important for all Albanians.
Finally, he called on citizens to carefully consider the consequences of political developments, warning that tensions and uncertainty could harm not only Albania, but also the interests of Albanians in the region.
