The winners were announced on Monday in Stockholm by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences at a ceremony held in the city.
The academy said the two economists’ research has improved the way public institutions analyze and manage economic fluctuations. Their work helps moderate periods of rapid expansion and contraction in economic activity.
“The winners have helped us moderate the economy’s peaks and downturns,” the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences said in its announcement.
Hall and Woodford’s models give policymakers more effective tools to assess the consequences of external shocks and design policies that support economic stability.
