A resident of Bitonto, in Italy’s Puglia region, nearly lost a €1 million prize after accidentally throwing the winning betting ticket in the trash.

After realizing his mistake, the winner immediately sought help to find the ticket. Employees of the Sanb waste management company identified which compactor truck had collected the waste and organized a special search operation.
Within 48 hours, after examining nearly 6 million tons of waste, the ticket was discovered among piles of trash.
“It was found among tons of waste,” the man said after the employees helped him recover the ticket.
The search lasted several hours, but the employees eventually managed to find the winning ticket, allowing the player to claim the €1 million prize.
The incident drew widespread attention in Italy because of its unusual outcome, while the waste management workers’ swift response proved crucial in recovering the valuable ticket.
