A major Russian offensive involving ballistic missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles struck Kyiv and its surrounding areas in the early hours of Wednesday, leaving at least 17 civilians dead and more than 50 others injured.

Ukrainian officials described it as one of the most tragic attacks the capital has suffered this year.
Timur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv’s military administration, reported that the offensive began after midnight, while warning sirens continued to wail for more than 60 minutes. Projectiles struck the capital and its outskirts, severely damaging apartment buildings and warehouses.
According to official reports, the strikes killed nine people in the Boryspil district, four in Bucha and one more in Fastiv. Mayor Vitali Klitschko said some people may still be trapped under the rubble, while four of the injured are fighting for their lives in critical condition.
Kyiv’s military authorities accused Russia of deliberately bombing civilians and non-military facilities. For its part, Moscow’s Defense Ministry insisted that the targets were logistics hubs and weapons depots in the capital region, as well as three transport vessels near the port of Odesa that were allegedly carrying military equipment.
Immediately after the attack, Kyiv once again appealed to its international partners to send more US-made Patriot interceptor missiles, saying they were essential to strengthening defenses against Russian ballistic threats.
