Idrizi communicated his decision to fellow party members, friends and DUI activists in a message, explaining that his reasons for taking this step were both personal and principled.
“I should not hold this position hostage, and it is time to make way for other activists who can make a more effective contribution at this moment,” Idrizi said.
Citing the consequences of the defeat in the local elections and the restructuring process in the party’s branches, he stressed that he no longer considers it reasonable to continue serving on DUI’s highest bodies.
Idrizi said that throughout his political career, he had made a “sincere, transparent and unwavering” contribution. He also said that he had faced what he described as “slander and attempts to tarnish his reputation.”
Blerim Idrizi’s resignation comes at a time when DUI is dealing with the political fallout and undergoing internal reorganization, raising further questions about the state of the party’s structures following its poor result in the local elections.
This departure is another indication that discontent and upheaval within DUI’s structures are continuing.
