According to Ahmeti, such a development does not frighten him, but reopening old wounds causes more pain than creating new ones. He stressed that these cases have been closed for more than 20 years.

Turning to the implementation of the Ohrid Agreement, Ahmeti said Albanian parties had shouldered the main burden of advancing and promoting it. At the same time, he criticised Macedonian political parties, saying they had not done enough to explain the importance of the agreement to Macedonian citizens.

Ahmeti rejected the belief that implementing the Ohrid Agreement meant Macedonians would lose the state. According to him, both Albanians and Macedonians have benefited equally from the document.

He singled out the adoption of the Law on the Use of Languages as one of the biggest obstacles to implementing the agreement, saying the process was completed only in 2016-2017. Ahmeti described the Ohrid Agreement as the historic compromise that safeguarded the state’s multiethnic character and prevented the possibility of Macedonia’s territorial partition.
