Firefighting forces are facing a fierce battle in the Gironde region, where about 42,000 hectares of land have already been scorched. The main fire is located approximately 15 kilometers from the outskirts of Bordeaux, and officials are following its advance with deep concern, favored by dry vegetation and strong winds.

Thousands of personnel are deployed on the ground, including firefighters, army forces, and security troops. Fire captain Nicolas Braz described the situation as a “disorderly and uncontrollable” fire, which is already generating powerful wind vortices.

French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez described the situation as “extremely unfavorable,” while President Emmanuel Macron promised to stand by the affected areas with full support.

Meanwhile, Spain is also facing devastating fires, forcing the evacuation of more than 90,000 people from areas around Madrid and Avila.
