Electoral Reform Commission seeks extension, Gjiknuri: Government ready to finance fully electronic voting

During today’s parliamentary session, Socialist MP Damian Gjiknuri announced that the Electoral Reform Commission will formally request an extension of its deadline.

He stressed that the issue of electronic counting has been enveloped in a tense climate, even though the political forces themselves had previously called for a greater presence of technology in electoral processes. According to him, the executive has long shown the will to financially cover the full transition to electronic voting for the next parliamentary elections.

Gjiknuri said that at the next meeting, the commission will submit the request for a deadline extension. He praised the work done so far, but acknowledged difficulties caused by political clashes.

Addressing the opposition, the MP emphasized that elections remain the only way to overcome conflicts and that without a reform addressing the OSCE recommendations, there is no alternative. He invited opposition representatives to present their suggestions, assuring that the majority has not imposed any rules and does not intend to do so, leaving them free space to choose.
