Central and Northern Europe have been facing a severe heatwave for the past 11 days, bringing record temperatures and serious consequences.
In France, Météo-France said the red alert for extreme heat is expected to be lifted on Sunday evening, as temperatures are forecast to gradually fall. Despite this, 37 departments across the country remain at the highest alert level.

The toll of this heatwave has also been worsened by the loss of human lives. In Marseille, an 18-month-old baby was found in critical condition inside a car left in the parking lot of a university hospital. Authorities said the child was rushed to hospital, but could not survive.
Another tragic case was recorded on Monday in southern France, where two children aged 2 and 4 were found lifeless in the family car, parked in a residential complex.
Also on Wednesday, a 3-year-old child died after being left alone in a vehicle in scorching temperatures.
The effects of the extreme weather have also been felt in the energy sector. Three reactors were forced to temporarily shut down due to the weather conditions, causing a drop in electricity production.
Meanwhile, authorities continue to urge citizens to avoid staying in the sun during the hottest hours of the day and never to leave children or animals locked inside vehicles, even for a few minutes.
