Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton, from SAS operations to the heart of the royal palace and now toward literature

Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton, a former SAS special forces officer and later an adviser to the British royal family, has returned to the center of public attention following the publication of a novel, rekindling interest in his distinctive journey close to Britain’s Royal Family.

According to an article by The Times, Lowther-Pinkerton is regarded as one of the most trusted people in King Charles III’s inner circle, while he was previously also very close to Prince William and Prince Harry. For decades, he has held important roles at the palace, dealing both with the organization of major events and the management of delicate family matters.

At the start of his time near the royal court, he served as an assistant to the Queen Mother, an experience which, by his own account, first opened the door to royal life for him and gave him direct access to its innermost workings.

Before entering palace service, Lowther-Pinkerton had built a career in the British Army and the SAS special forces. During this period, he was decorated for operations against a drug cartel in Colombia, an experience that shaped him into someone capable of handling high-risk situations and sensitive protocol processes.

He later took on responsibilities within the royal family and became one of the closest advisers to Prince William and Prince Harry, also playing an important role in preparing them for public exposure and royal duties.

Lowther-Pinkerton himself has said that working with the royal family required constant adaptability. He described his role as a balance between the firmness of a soldier and the diplomatic finesse of an adviser.

In this position, he was also involved in organizing the 2011 royal wedding between Prince William and Kate Middleton, in addition to other important engagements related to royal protocol.

In his recollections, he presents Prince William as a born leader, while portraying Prince Harry as more spontaneous and energetic. Despite their differences in character, he emphasized that he had respect and appreciation for both.

Lowther-Pinkerton was also involved in handling several sensitive episodes, including supporting Prince Harry after public scandals by accompanying him on educational trips and at meetings of symbolic importance.

In earlier interviews, as well as in the memoirs published by Prince Harry himself, he is described as a calm and reliable presence at the palace, a man who “didn’t deal in nonsense” and who always maintained professionalism.

However, when asked about the deep rift between Prince Harry and Prince William, he chose not to comment, stressing that he wants to stay away from the topic, even though he has had close ties with both.

Now 65, Lowther-Pinkerton has decided to open a new chapter in his life as an author. His first book tells a love story set against the backdrop of the Second World War, weaving together historical elements with personal experiences inspired by his family and by his intelligence service experience.

He has said that the impulse for the novel came from the life of his mother, who during the Second World War served in military intelligence and later in the British security services.

During the years of his career, Lowther-Pinkerton was also in contact with well-known public and royal figures, including Princess Diana, and took part in state activities and official trips involving the royal family.

In royal circles, he is known as a direct, no-filter person, but at the same time as one of the most trusted individuals for handling sensitive situations inside the palace.

His path sums up an unusual story that begins with military operations and the SAS, continues through the corridors of the royal palace, and now moves into the world of literature. He remains one of the figures who stayed closest to the royal family for the longest time in informal roles, moving from the status of an employee to that of a close friend.

Today, he says he continues to have strong relationships with the royal family and that his role as Prince George’s godfather, together with his ties to the family’s younger generation, remains an important part of his life.

His new novel is seen as the first step in another stage for a man who has spent his life between military discipline, aristocracy, and British politics.
