The decision was made after an analysis of video footage, witness statements and verifications carried out by Internal Control. According to Iseni, serious irregularities were identified in the officers’ actions, and disciplinary proceedings will be initiated against them.
Iseni stated that the misuse of force cannot be tolerated and that neither the uniform nor official position can exempt anyone from accountability before the law.
“The police uniform implies an obligation to protect citizens. Any misuse of it damages their dignity, trust in the police and the authority of the state,” he said, adding that investigations into the October 7 incident had uncovered violations in the actions of police officers.
The deputy minister stressed that the suspension does not mark the end of the process. In accordance with the instructions of the competent prosecutors’ offices, examinations are being conducted and all evidence is being documented in order to determine possible criminal responsibility.
“Neither the uniform, nor the duty, nor affiliation exempts anyone from the application of the law. Citizens have the right to security, dignity and a professional police force. Trust in the police can be strengthened only through accountability for every violation,” Iseni said./Telegrafi/
