After Zelensky’s criticism of the agreement with Russia, the White House chief said it was time for Ukraine to have a new president.
According to the Ukrainian president, a new agreement that would allow millions of tons of Russian oil to be extracted for sale in the United States and on global markets would provide Moscow with revenue to continue the war in Ukraine. He described it as a gift from Trump to the Russian president, Vladimir Putin.
As he was leaving the White House, Trump accused Zelensky of “wanting to create problems for the world” because he continues to authorize attacks on Russian refineries.
“It should stop,” Trump said. He then suggested that Ukraine should have “a new leader who can make a deal.”
Trump added that Zelensky “could have made many deals and, for some reason, he never does.”
On Friday, the US president confirmed that an agreement had been reached with Moscow to suspend sanctions on Russian oil exports until April 7.
In Miami, President Zelensky’s delegation met with Trump’s representatives for talks that were expected to focus on ways to persuade Russia to end the war. The meeting was interrupted after the Ukrainian side learned about the oil agreement between Trump and Putin.
During the talks, Witkoff and Kushner also informed Kyiv that US intelligence would halt the exchange of information with Ukrainian intelligence if Ukraine continued bombing Russian refineries.
Following the announcement of the Trump-Putin agreement, a Ukrainian official said that “the attacks will continue.” The Ukrainian delegation decided to return home and cancel the second round of talks with the United States, scheduled for Saturday, October 10.
