Peskov told Russian state media that Putin had welcomed several proposals put forward by the United States for steps that could help ease tensions. He did not disclose details about the content of the proposals.
Meanwhile, a meeting was held in Miami attended by US and Ukrainian officials, as well as representatives from Germany, France, Britain, the European Commission and NATO. US envoy Steve Witkoff described the talks as constructive.
The discussions focused on the possibility of ending the conflict before winter and establishing a lasting peace. The agenda included security guarantees, energy supplies, grain exports and the reconstruction of Ukraine, while the possibility of the country joining the European Union was also addressed.
The territorial issue remains the biggest obstacle. Moscow is seeking to take control of the entire Donbas, including territories currently administered by Kyiv, a demand opposed by President Volodymyr Zelensky.
During the Trump–Putin phone call, the easing of US restrictions on Russian oil was also announced, with the aim of increasing supplies to global markets. Zelensky condemned the measure, warning that the additional revenues could be used to finance Moscow’s war.
Washington aims to hold broader talks with Russia and Ukraine during this month, but no official date has been set so far.
