According to the announcement, an international ministerial conference on Corridor 8 will be held in Sofia on October 8, hosted by Bulgarian Foreign Minister Velislava Petrova.
As part of the forum, which will also be attended by Foreign Minister Timcho Mucunski, there is a possibility of a bilateral meeting, which is part of the regular dialogue between the two countries, BTA reports.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen suggested to Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski that, during the upcoming meeting in Sofia, Mucunski should request a meeting with the head of Bulgarian diplomacy, in an effort to put Macedonia back on the right path toward negotiations with the EU.
According to Mickoski, a note was immediately sent to Sofia requesting a bilateral meeting.
Meanwhile, SDSM leader Venko Filipche has no expectations from the meeting in Sofia between the foreign ministers. He said that at least 10 meetings should have been held by now and that the government uses every action as an excuse. He believes that von der Leyen has confirmed that Macedonia’s European path threatens neither its identity nor its language, Telegrafi reports.
