The discovery reinforces the assessment that Rasnica served as a necropolis during the Archaic period.
The findings are expected to be made public this afternoon at a press conference to be held in Ohrid.
According to the Museum’s announcement, this year’s research has brought to light an extraordinary military burial in which a complete set of military equipment was preserved. It includes a shield, helmet, spears and a sword, as well as other items made of gold, bronze, amber and other materials.
The results are considered particularly important because they unequivocally confirm Rasnica’s character as a necropolis from the Archaic period. They also create new opportunities to study burial customs, military and social organization, and the elites who lived in the Ohrid-Struga region during the 6th century BC.
Rasnica became known to the public in 2024, when archaeological excavations uncovered a monumental burial complex rich in archaeological materials./Telegrafi/
