Police detained 12 drivers in various parts of the country over the past 24 hours on suspicion of committing the criminal offense of “reckless driving,” as provided for under Article 297-a of the Criminal Code.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Interior, nine of those detained had driven vehicles without having taken a driving test. They were D.D. (26) from Skopje, M.B. (29) from the village of Cërn Vërv, Skopje, M.P. (18) from the village of Mërshevci, Skopje, a 15-year-old from the village of Studeniçan, Skopje, N.B. (48) from Bitola, A.A. (44) from Bitola, I.K. (51) from the village of Viniçani, the Municipality of Gradsko, a 16-year-old from Veles, and L.M. (61) from the village of Stamer, Delçevo.
B.B. (60) from the village of Zajas, Kičevo, and M.M. (37) from Veles were caught driving vehicles while subject to an active driving ban and under the influence of alcohol. Meanwhile, L.Xh. (48) from the village of Razllovci, Delçevo, drove a vehicle while intoxicated.
Once the documentation procedures have been completed, criminal charges will be filed against all the suspects.
The Ministry of Interior called on road users to respect traffic rules and regulations. The authorities also reminded the public that people must not drive without having taken a driving test, while a driving ban is in force, or under the influence of alcohol, in order to improve road safety.
