A 15-year-old has been detained after at least 11 people were injured in a shooting near a high school in Manisa province in western Turkey.

Two of the injured are in critical condition. The incident occurred on Tuesday morning, when an armed person opened fire and then fled the scene. The shooting took place near Inci Üzmez Anatolian Vocational and Technical High School. Authorities have detained a 15-year-old suspected of being a student at the school.
Turkish Justice Minister Akın Gürlek said the suspect’s mother, father and grandfather had also been detained as part of the investigation. The motive for the attack remains unclear.
Security camera footage shows the suspect walking through streets near the school with a gun in his hand before leaving the area.
Under Turkish law, the teenager must appear before a court before a formal decision is made on his arrest. Turkey’s Education Ministry described the incident as one that had shaken the education community and announced that it was sending three national investigators to Manisa.
This is the third shooting attack at a school in Turkey this year. Two deadly attacks in April were followed by new security measures, including stricter checks on weapons.
