US-Iran agreement provides for inspections at Iranian nuclear plants by the IAEA

Iran’s nuclear plants will be subject to inspections by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) as part of the agreement reached between the United States and Iran to end the conflict. This was confirmed by the agency’s director, Rafael Grossi.

In a statement to the media during a visit to Japan, Grossi explained that the memorandum of understanding signed by both sides clearly specifies that Iran’s nuclear activities will be under IAEA supervision.

To do that, we will need to inspect. It does not matter whether this happens in a few days or later, but it will happen,” he said.

Grossi’s comments come after differing positions emerged between Washington and Tehran over the issue of inspections. US President Donald Trump has said that Iran agreed to broader checks by the UN, while Iranian officials have denied that any visits by inspectors were envisaged.

The last time the IAEA carried out an inspection at an active Iranian nuclear facility was at the beginning of June. Meanwhile, for nearly a year the agency has not had access to the nuclear sites that were damaged during the US and Israeli strikes in 2025.
