Donald Trump held a roughly one-hour phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to reports by foreign media, he received assurances from Moscow that Russia has no “aggressive plans” toward Europe.

The information was made public by Putin’s foreign policy adviser, Yuri Ushakov, who spoke to reporters. The statement comes several weeks after the hybrid attack on Leipzig-Halle Airport, for which the German government has blamed Russia.
Ushakov described the communication between the two presidents as “constructive and quite candid.” He said Putin presented Trump with an “objective and detailed analysis of developments on the battlefield” and explained “what the Americans can do to bring the fighting to an end as quickly as possible.” The Russian adviser provided no further details about this part of the conversation.
The call took place at a time when Western countries are increasing military aid to Ukraine, while Moscow is suggesting that a new rapprochement with Washington may be possible. The Kremlin has praised the visit to Russia by U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner over the weekend. According to the Kremlin, the possibility of organizing further prisoner exchanges was also discussed during the conversation.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenski also praised the American envoys, saying they had presented several “very good and valuable” ideas for ending the war. Zelensky also said he hopes to meet with Trump within the next two weeks.
Meanwhile, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russia remains committed to achieving its military objectives and believes it is close to victory. Trump has not yet made a public statement regarding his conversation with Putin.
