A tragic incident was recorded around midday today in Carpentras, in southern France, where two children aged 2 and 4 were found dead inside their family car, at a time when the country is being gripped by a severe heatwave.
The children were discovered at around 13:10 in the vehicle parked near the home, after their mother had returned from shopping. Emergency teams intervened and tried to revive them, but without success, as both had already died.

Carpentras prosecutor Helene Mourez said that the exact causes of death have not yet been determined; however, there remains suspicion that the high temperatures may have played a decisive role in this tragedy.
According to local media reports, it is still unclear how the children ended up in the car and how long they remained there. Initial investigations indicate that they may have entered the vehicle without the knowledge of their 33-year-old mother.
This incident comes as France is going through one of the harshest heatwaves ever recorded. Authorities have placed 49 departments on the highest alert level for extreme temperatures, while more than 90% of the population is expected to be affected by these weather conditions.
