The incident occurred on August 2 during a planned parachuting display. According to reports, the veteran jumped from an altitude of around 600 meters, but his main parachute failed to open.
After realizing that it had malfunctioned, the 41-year-old immediately attempted to deploy his reserve parachute. However, there was not enough altitude remaining for it to slow his fall.
The paratrooper struck the ground with great force and died from his injuries.
Russian authorities have launched an investigation to clarify the circumstances of the accident and determine why the main parachute failed.
