The arrest comes just days after the murder of former Reform UK MP Ann Widdecombe. Hours before the arrest was made public, the party’s home affairs spokesman, Zia Yusuf, had warned of the growing dangers to politicians’ safety and promised that a Reform UK government would provide adequate protection for both active and former MPs.

After this event, Reform UK, the Labour Party, and other cross-party representatives have called for enhanced security measures for politicians, citing the murder of Widdecombe at her home last week.

Nigel Farage has stated that threats against politicians, whether online or in the real world, are not being treated with the appropriate seriousness by the authorities.

According to sources, this is the first time that a referral from parliamentary authorities to investigate a death threat against Farage has resulted in the arrest of a suspect.
