The development comes amid continued tensions in the region, as the conflict between the Iran-linked Houthis and forces supporting Yemen’s internationally recognized government continues to escalate.
Saudi Colonel Turki al-Malki, the coalition’s spokesman, said air defense systems had identified and destroyed the two drones launched toward the Riyadh area.
Al-Malki published the announcement on the X platform, where he described the attackers as the “Houthi terrorist organization.”
Later, the spokesman also announced the interception of two ballistic missiles launched toward Khamis Mushait, a city in southwestern Saudi Arabia that is home to a major air force base of the kingdom.
