Although American President Donald Trump announced that Moscow and Kyiv had reached an understanding on an “energy ceasefire,” Russia carried out a new wave of strikes against Ukraine’s energy grid.

Trump had emphasized that the halt of attacks on the energy sector would take effect without any delay and called on both parties to implement it. The Ukrainian head of state, Volodymyr Zelensky, declared that he had not been notified in advance about this initiative, but showed himself open to approving it, on the condition that Moscow also remains faithful to its implementation. The government in Kyiv is still awaiting details from the American side.
Zelensky also reported that a Russian Shahed-type drone fell on a power plant in the capital, while strikes were also recorded against energy facilities in the Kharkiv area. So far, neither of the two countries has confirmed the existence of a signed agreement to halt attacks of this kind.
The civilian population once again came under fire. According to data from Ukrainian authorities, three people lost their lives and nine others were wounded near a market in Kharkiv, while two other victims were recorded in Ivano-Frankivsk, a city in the west of the country.
The threat of Ukrainian drones prompted security measures on Russian territory as well: in Moscow and other centers of the country, air traffic was halted or temporarily restricted.
The proposal was welcomed by French President Emmanuel Macron and the European Commission, who support efforts for a genuine halt to strikes in the energy field.
The European Union’s agenda also includes addressing Ukraine’s financial needs for the coming year, as well as additional support with drones and missiles to strengthen air defense. However, the continuation of the attacks casts doubt on the possibility of reaching and respecting such an agreement.
