Radars on North Macedonia’s highways monitor vehicle speed

Foreign nationals passing through North Macedonia in transit will be included in the “Safe City” camera system, but until the full modernization of this system is completed, fines will not be sent to their home addresses.

Meanwhile, drivers of vehicles with foreign license plates who exceed the speed limit on the country’s highways will be sanctioned only by police officers traveling in civilian vehicles equipped with radars, known as “interceptors,” INA reports.

According to the Ministry of Interior, these vehicles are continuously present on Corridors 8 and 10, with the aim of punishing drivers who do not comply with traffic rules and regulations.

“Regarding the vehicles you are asking about, the so-called ‘interceptors,’ we inform you that they are continuously present on Corridors 8 and 10 with the aim of sanctioning drivers who violate traffic rules and regulations,” the Ministry of Interior said.

Earlier, Interior Minister Panche Toshkovski had appealed to all those traveling through Corridors 8 and 10, stressing that the “Safe City” cameras are active, operational and recording traffic violations.

He said that after the country’s citizens, foreign nationals and migrants passing through in transit will very soon also receive fines for violations committed. Toshkovski called for respect for the rules, underlining that every life saved is a great gesture. /INA/
