A suitcase dumped in the Vizelj Canal was found to contain the body of a Russian model who had been reported missing while on vacation in Belgrade. The case has shocked the Serbian public.

The victim was Lyudmila Turkova, a 28-year-old from St. Petersburg. No one had heard from her for six days after she went to meet several friends at a nightclub in the Serbian capital.
Local residents spotted the suspicious suitcase in the water and alerted the police. During the search, officers also used a search dog, which helped locate the remains.
Serbian police have not yet disclosed how the 28-year-old was killed. Her body has been sent to the Institute of Forensic Medicine for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
A Turkish citizen identified by the initials K.E. has been arrested in connection with the case. He was apprehended at Belgrade’s Nikola Tesla Airport while allegedly attempting to leave the country.
According to a statement from Serbia’s Interior Ministry, the detainee is a Turkish citizen born in 2001 and is suspected of murdering the model. Investigators believe the crime was committed in the early hours of July 26 inside a rented apartment in Belgrade’s Borča district.
Turkova had arrived in Serbia for a two-week vacation. Her family raised the alarm after she disappeared on July 25. Her last message was sent at around 23:00, and she had not been heard from since.
