Olivia and Muhammad continue to lead the ranking of the most-used names for babies born in England and Wales in 2025.
According to data published by the Office for National Statistics (ONS), Olivia tops the girls’ list for the 10th consecutive year, while Muhammad remains the most popular name for boys for the third year in a row.

In 2025, the name Olivia was given to 2,386 newborn girls. It was followed by Lily with 2,249 registrations, while Amelia dropped to third place with 2,153 registrations.
The top 10 most-used names for girls also include Isla, Florence, Freya, Poppy, Elsie, Ivy and Isabella, which enters this top 10 for the first time.
For boys, Muhammad was given to 5,957 babies. Noah holds second place with 4,075 registrations, while Leo climbed to third place with 3,278.
The top 10 for boys is completed by the names Luca, Arthur, Oliver, George, Oscar, Theodore and Freddie.
ONS says that other forms of the name Muhammad also continue to be widely used. The variant Mohammed ranked 20th with 1,712 registrations, while Mohammad was positioned in 55th place with 895 registrations.
The published list was compiled on the basis of official birth registration data for 2025.
Among the names entering the top 100 most-used list for girls for the first time were Eliana, Gracie, Alba and Lilah. For boys, Carter, Ruben, Stanley and Vincent were included in the ranking for the first time.
On the other hand, some names dropped out of the top 100 list. For girls, Ellie, Amelie and Jessica are no longer part of it, while for boys Grayson, Brody and Bodhi dropped out.
The data also show that Ada was the name with the biggest rise for girls, climbing 54 places to reach 45th position. For boys, the biggest rise was recorded by Roman, which rose 33 places and ranked 27th.
ONS also published monthly statistics for the year. For girls, Olivia was the most-used name in January, February, March, April, May, June, October and November. In July, Isla came out on top; in August, Lily; in September, Amelia; and in December, Florence.
For boys, Muhammad was the most-used name in every month of 2025.
