This Wednesday, President of the Republic Bajram Begaj received the new ambassador of the European Union Delegation to Albania, Sofia Moreira de Sousa, who presented her credentials.

President Begaj wished the ambassador success in her new post and praised the role of the EU Delegation in strengthening relations between Tirana and Brussels, as well as in supporting the integration process.

During the meeting, they discussed the progress of the negotiations and the implementation of the reforms needed for Albania’s EU membership by 2030.
The president said that the country had entered an advanced stage of the process, while calling for the fight against corruption to continue and for the independence of justice institutions to be guaranteed.

The head of state described judicial reform as one of the main proofs of Albania’s commitment to meeting European standards.

The meeting also highlighted Albania’s full alignment with the EU’s Common Foreign and Security Policy.

Addressing Ambassador Moreira de Sousa, Begaj expressed his conviction that by the end of her term, Albania would have joined the European Union.
