The death toll from the devastating floods in Nepal continues to rise. Officials have so far reported that the bodies of 1,287 people have been recovered, while more than 5,000 citizens have been declared missing.

Data from the National Disaster Management Authority show that 5,083 people remain unaccounted for, while a large number of families have been left homeless.
Preliminary damage assessments reveal that the force of the water, landslides and debris carried by the floodwaters have completely flattened around 7,500 homes.
According to official estimates, the total number of homes requiring complete reconstruction could reach 20,000. Meanwhile, rescue teams are continuing their operations without interruption to locate those who remain missing.
The death toll and damage estimates are expected to change again, as a full assessment of the impact of this catastrophic event is still underway.
